A calmer, brighter, more resilient you. Opti Lithium Plus™ pairs low-dose lithium orotate with 5-HTP, active vitamins B6 and B12, and patented Curcumin C3 Complex® to support balanced mood, a healthy stress response and long-term brain health. MOOD · MIND · MEMORY.*
Lithium is a naturally occurring trace mineral found in drinking water, soil and many foods, and a growing body of research shows it plays an important role in how the brain protects itself, adapts and renews. Opti Lithium Plus delivers a gentle, nutritional amount of lithium as lithium orotate, a well-absorbed form, and surrounds it with four synergistic nutrients that support the brain's own mood chemistry.*

Lithium: the overlooked brain mineral
Most people think of lithium only as a prescription medication. But in tiny, natural amounts, lithium is a trace mineral we've always taken in through water and food, and researchers increasingly see it as a nutrient that matters for the brain.*
- Nature's own supply: Lithium levels in drinking water vary widely from region to region. Large population studies in Japan, Texas, Austria, Denmark and elsewhere have found that communities with higher natural lithium in their water tend to have better measures of mental well-being.
- Brain protection: Research shows lithium supports the production of BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), helps regulate GSK-3β, an enzyme involved in brain cell health and aging, and supports the growth of new brain cells in the hippocampus.*
- Gray matter support: Brain imaging studies have linked lithium to healthy gray matter volume in areas involved in mood and memory.*
- A proposed daily need: Some researchers have suggested that adults need about 1 mg of lithium per day, yet intake varies widely depending on where you live and what you eat.
Lithium and your memory
The landmark 2025 Nature study: why lithium orotate stands apart
A recent study from Harvard Medical School, published in the journal Nature, identified low-dose lithium orotate, the form used in Opti Lithium Plus, as uniquely effective at preventing and reversing Alzheimer's-type brain changes and memory loss in mouse models. It outperformed other lithium salts, such as lithium carbonate, the form used in prescription lithium.
- The lithium deficiency connection: The researchers found that the brain's own natural lithium levels in the prefrontal cortex were significantly reduced in people with mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease. Lithium appears to be a naturally occurring part of the healthy brain, and losing it may be one of the earliest steps in memory decline.
- The trapping mechanism: Amyloid-beta plaques bind to and sequester standard forms of lithium, such as lithium carbonate. This traps the lithium and prevents it from protecting brain cells, so the brain becomes lithium-deficient right where it needs protection most.
- Why lithium orotate works: Lithium orotate has low ionization and minimal amyloid binding. That allows it to evade capture by plaques, cross the blood-brain barrier effectively and help normalize lithium levels in the brain.
- Reversal in the lab: In mice, low-dose lithium orotate cleared amyloid-beta plaques, reduced tau phosphorylation (the process behind tau "tangles"), lowered neuroinflammation and restored cognitive function and memory. Standard lithium carbonate showed little to no benefit.
- Low dose, big impact: The benefits came from very low doses of lithium orotate, a tiny fraction of the doses used in prescription lithium.
Human trials are still needed to confirm these results, but this research gives a powerful scientific reason to choose lithium orotate, and it's exactly why Opti Lithium Plus is built on it.
More research on lithium and memory
- Microdose research in people: A 15-month clinical study published in Current Alzheimer Research found that a very low daily dose of lithium (300 mcg) helped stabilize cognitive performance in older adults with memory decline, while the placebo group continued to decline.
- Population research: A nationwide Danish study published in JAMA Psychiatry found that people living in areas with higher natural lithium levels in drinking water had lower rates of dementia.
Why lithium orotate? More effective at a fraction of the dose
In lithium orotate, lithium is bound to orotic acid, a natural compound the body uses to make nucleic acids. Research suggests this pairing helps lithium reach the brain more efficiently, so a much smaller amount can go much further.*
- Outperformed lithium carbonate in the Nature study: At low doses, lithium orotate restored memory and reversed Alzheimer's-type brain changes in mice, while lithium carbonate, the prescription form, showed little to no benefit.
- Effective at about one-tenth the dose: In a 2021 study published in Brain and Behavior, lithium orotate produced its full effect in mice at a dose roughly 10 times lower than lithium carbonate. Unlike lithium carbonate, it didn't cause the excessive thirst or the kidney and thyroid changes seen with the prescription form.
- A tiny fraction of prescription doses: Prescription lithium is typically given as 600–1,800 mg of lithium carbonate a day, which provides about 110–340 mg of elemental lithium. Opti Lithium Plus provides just 5 mg, roughly 20 to 70 times less, and supplement doses of lithium orotate can be as low as 0.2 mg, up to 1,000 times less.
- Decades of supplemental use: Lithium orotate has been used as a dietary supplement for decades with a favorable safety record and few reported adverse events.

Four partners for complete mood support
5-HTP: the serotonin building block
5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is the direct precursor your brain uses to make serotonin, the "feel-good" neurotransmitter behind a positive mood, emotional balance and a sense of calm. Serotonin is also converted into melatonin, supporting healthy sleep cycles. Unlike tryptophan, 5-HTP crosses into the brain easily and doesn't compete with other amino acids to get there.*
Vitamin B6 (as P5P): the conversion catalyst
Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (P5P) is the active form of vitamin B6. It is the essential cofactor that converts 5-HTP into serotonin, and it's also needed to make dopamine, norepinephrine and GABA, the calming neurotransmitter. Because P5P is already in its active form, your body can use it right away.*
Vitamin B12 (as methylcobalamin): fuel for methylation
Methylcobalamin is the active, ready-to-use form of vitamin B12. It powers methylation, the process your body uses to make SAMe (S-adenosyl-L-methionine), a key compound for producing and balancing neurotransmitters. B12 also supports healthy nerve function, energy and memory, and B12 status often declines with age.*
Curcumin C3 Complex®: calm the fire
Curcumin C3 Complex® is a patented, standardized turmeric extract with a minimum of 95% curcuminoids and one of the most clinically studied curcumin extracts in the world. Curcumin is a powerful antioxidant that supports a healthy inflammatory response in the brain and body, supports healthy BDNF levels, and has been studied in human trials for its support of a positive mood.*

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as prescription lithium?
No. Prescription lithium is given in much larger doses under medical supervision. Opti Lithium Plus provides a small, nutritional amount of lithium as lithium orotate, closer to the range people can get from lithium-rich water and food.
Why lithium orotate instead of other forms?
Lithium orotate is well absorbed, which allows a small amount to go a long way. Research published in Nature found that lithium orotate avoids being trapped by amyloid plaques, crosses into the brain effectively and outperformed lithium carbonate in restoring memory in mice.*
Can I take it with antidepressants or other medications?
5-HTP increases serotonin, so if you take an antidepressant (such as an SSRI), prescription lithium or any other medication that affects mood or serotonin, talk with your doctor before using Opti Lithium Plus.
When will I notice a difference?
Everyone is different. Many people take Opti Lithium Plus consistently for several weeks to experience its full benefits. Each bottle is a 3-month supply.
